Roofing Felt
Roofing felt, such as shed roof felt, has been used for over one hundred years by construction workers and homeowners, and roof felt is considered to be an integral part of ensuring that your garden outbuilding or structure maintains.
What is roofing felt?
Roofing felt is either a covered base made from natural materials such as wood cellulose or fibreglass/polyester, which is then covered in a protective coating like asphalt, which ultimately repels any water, but still allows the product to breathe. They are often used for felt roof tiles.
And by covering any buildings with roofing felt, the structure will be permanently protected from any sorts of weather, ultimately creating a waterproof, but breathable, barrier. Therefore, a flat roof felt creates a safe layer to be worked upon. And, due to its affordability, felt roofing rolls have been a popular choice for over 30 years.
How does it work?
Ultimately, when hot air rises through the house and reaches the roof, any moisturise or dampness in the air condenses and shrinks and gets caught by the roofing felt. This is very important for houses nowadays, as they are built with extras like double glazing which reduces air circulation. Therefore, roofing felt is vital in allowing to build up moisture and air to be released from inside the building structure.
There are also two different types of roofing felt, #15 and #30, with the only difference between the two being the strength of the material, available in rolls of roofing felt. The best way to decide which one to buy mainly depends on how resilient you need the roofing to be– as #30 is recommended to be a product of heavy duty-rooting felt, which means it is a lot stronger and more durable.
